January. The month where resolutions are written, new goals are set and promises are made. We want to be better, work harder, eat healthier, spend less, save more; the loftiest of intentions envisioned. While I am a big fan of a fresh start and goal setting, I stopped making resolutions in January a few years ago and decided to start on a journey to simplify my life. I didn't need to be a new me, I like me (most of the time) but I did need to start to clear the clutter from my heart and mind and to make a conscious effort to live intentionally, focusing my time, energy and resources on all that brings joy to myself and family.
As I said, it is a journey. There is nothing simple about my life or mind (I will spare you the bio) but over the past few years I have picked up on lots of little tricks and strategies from friends, books and pod casts that have helped pave my path to more intentional living. In addition to a major focus on de-cluttering our home, I implemented little habits such a meal delivery two days a week from Blue Apron, pre-scheduling my workouts for the month with the Peleton app and a laundry schedule. Simple, but these little changes have made all the difference in the daily management of my life.
There of course are obstacles; few paths in life don't present them. So, while I could purge extra cookware and old decor without hesitation, my closet presented a bigger challenge for many reasons: 1. I have a lot of clothes 2. I like clothes 3. I like shopping for clothes. Oh and there's another small issue, I am no way only going to wear 33 things for 3 months (for anyone who has heard of Project 333). Impressive, but not me. Simplifying my wardrobe was going to require a big paradigm change and I needed to do it my way.
In this blog, I will share my closet strategies, wardrobe and fashion advice, with the hope that you find some value in these practices and join me on my journey for simplistic style.
